Huntington Beach Anniversary Photography

Jeff and Siobhan must be two of the coolest people I have had the pleasure of getting to know over the last year. They have this energy when they’re together which is intense and playful at the same time, so when they asked me to photograph them at Huntington Beach, CA I leaped at the opportunity. Growing up, I was told that the best photography is done at sunrise and sunset (sunset being preferred because who the heck wants to get up at 4am?) so we planned for 6pm in Huntington and I immediately started obsessing over what kind of shots I would capture for them.

One great thing about this couple is how they each exude the perfect energy of Man and Woman. Jeff is tall and has this sorta rugged look (it’s the beard I think) which balances well next to Siobhan’s softer look and frame.

While we didn’t talk about wardrobe beforehand, they made it easy on me and chose both fun clothing for the first half of the shoot, and more traditional attire for the second half. Siobhan wore a summer dress and Jeff was in a white long-sleeve and jeans (standard wardrobe for beach photos…and you can see why..the pictures look great!).

They both were really at ease in front of the camera. We were able to get through the entire shoot in just over an hour and they did amazing! As I said before, and as you can tell from the pictures, the two of them have an easygoing, playful way about them that seems really at home on the beach. Yes, they were there to do photos, but that didn’t stop them from having fun like starting an impromptu bamboo stick battle, or Siobhan throwing a sour look on her face to mess with Jeff as he leaned in for a kiss (see below).

It also helped that the weather was unseasonably warm and the beach relatively deserted. I hope future photoshoots at the beach are as trouble-free as this shoot was!!

Romantic Note: Huntington Beach was where Siobhan asked Jeff out a year ago. I suspect he was going to ask her first though, because Siobhan tells me that it was Jeff’s idea to walk on the pier that night. I mean, come on, perfect setup, right guys? :)
